Default Hello, how are ya?

Thought I'd finally post and say hi. I've been a lurker for several months.

I'm considering starting my own biz after several years of painting with my dad. I don't claim to know it all, but who does? (maybe some on this forum do )

This place looks fun and I hope to contribute more now that I've taken the first step.

Welcome to the site! Look forward to your input. If you put your location in your profile, it will help, as things vary from region to region!
Here is one of my favorite threads.

Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Been painting on and off for 5+ years. We were a two man crew. Work slowed down so my dad decided to work as a full time painter at a large company. I'm (don't laugh) currently an IT geek but find it to be dull as hell. Always had a fire to get my own painting business started and do things my way.

Will do. Yeah, I've read through that thread several times. I'm currently reading Guerrilla Marketing. Great read.

Another fantastic thread is here:

This hit home immediately. I've seen and met so many people like 'Alan' that lack the business skills but are FANTASTIC painters. No doubt I'm wet behind the ears, but I have a great personal resource along with this fantastic site! I envy a lot of you here.

Sounds like you are off to a great start! What type of IT, any internet/marketing or all hardware?

That is another great thread, you show good taste. How old are you if you don't mind my asking?
I was just asking because if you are still in the college years I say stick it out in school and lock onto a good job with great bennies and retirement plan this job can be like a double edged sword. Great to be your own boss and easy to starve to death.
So are you painting on the side now or just doing the IT?

Mostly work with hardware. I've played around with the Drupal CMS (Website dev) which I've noticed a few painters here have their sites running on. Google LOVES Drupal by the way. It's one hell of a way to incorporate a blog, pic gallery, forum etc. Plus, its free. Can't beat that!

RCP, you have some great posts on internet marketing. I plan on using your ideas as I try to get this ball slowly rolling...

I'm a college grad...in my 30's. You bring up a big dilemma for me. This economy is nerve racking. I'm full time IT right now. I planned on doing side work to start then go full tilt. Has anyone tried that before making the leap? Can it be done? Uggghh.

Thanks, you have probably figured out that I am not one of the guys with all the painting experience and knowledge, but a gal who likes to support them!

Nate, you hear that on Drupal?!
