Default Hello from Seattle

Hi all. I've been lurking here at PT for a short time. I'm glad I found you. I've enjoyed learning some things from you guys who are still out there swinging a brush, so I thought I would join up.

I've spent my entire career either selling paint or painting professionally, so I have some experience on both sides of the paint counter.

I ran my own painting company for many years. It was a small operation, as I never employed more than three painters. I mostly did residential repaints and restorations. I also did some light commercial work and occasionally some new construction.

I put down my brush several years ago when I started my current job as a Rep for a major national paint company. I plan on staying at this job for a few more years as I ease into retirement.

Nowadays, I still do a bit of brushing and rolling to help out family and friends, and to use some of the products that I rep. However, my wife and I are going to have the exterior of our home painted next year, and we decided that we are going to hire a painter to do it!

Hi Dan. Thanks for your welcome!

I forgot to mention that I flipped houses for a few years. That was quite a few years ago, back before I ever heard the term "flipping houses." The houses were all VA redemptions. I enjoyed it, but never made a lot of money doing it. I guess I'm a jack-of-all-trades and the master of none.

Thanks, Charlie.

I've never been to NC, but I've heard it's nice. About the closest I've been to NC are the few times I spent in Florida. My wife and I are thinking about visiting Washington DC in a few years. Neither of us has been there before. We'll be doing the tourist thing there.

When I was younger, I dreamed of hiking the Appalachian Trail, which would have taken me right through the Smoky Mountains of NC. About the closest I ever got to that dream was hiking several sections of the Pacific Crest Trail in Washington State. Now the wife and I are more interested in beaches.

Hi neighbor! Thanks for the welcome.

My home base is in Seattle, but I'm in Longview today, not far from Woodland. Do you take on much work in the Longview/Kelso area?

Hi there. Yes, your pretty close. I don't take on much in Longview anymore. Too many older homes, and I stopped doing RRP jobs. I just don't find them worth while for me. The average home on my exterior repaints is 10-15 years old with Hardi-Plank siding. I like doing them and get plenty without having to mess with the older "peelers". Most of my work is Woodland and south of Woodland. Half is probably in Vancouver this year.

I imagine Vancouver is a good market for you. Is East Vancouver still growing like crazy?

Not lately. It's very slowly starting to pick up again. Vancouver has been good to me.
