Per guidelines, here is my introduction.......
I'm James (Jimmy) and have been painting for just more than 12 years now. My primary work has been new residential custom and spec homes, then a couple of years mostly commercial, leading into the last 2 years of mostly residential repaints/remodels while beginning a business for myself.
Relating to another thread I came across, I didn't set out to become a business owner when I did. I was a bit naive and too trusting and it led to my first and last side job while being employed by another person. Long story but I see now what I didn't then.
In this time I've discovered there's a lot more to painting than just being a good painter. The best painter isn't necessarily going to be even a decent businessman, but things have gotten much better and thankfully I haven't made any big mistakes along the way. I did have some good teachers and the experience of running jobs beforehand.
And now, I've come across this board where I've gained more insight and help into the running of a business and can double check myself if I don't feel 100% confident about something. I can sometimes be almost paranoid when it comes to making sure a job is done right. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good.
Anyway, no attempts to act like I know it all, but maybe in the process of continuing my education of things, I might be able to add a little of insight from my experiences.
See y'all around.
