H&R wouldn't care... If you are truly subbing out thats one thing but if you are controlling the hours the guys work they are consider employees and you would be responsible for payroll taxes and the IRS could come after you for that.

Also if your 1099 them they are responsible for there own insurance and if they can not provide proof they have insurance they you should be covering them on workmens comp.. again more like employeess its just something you don't want to gt caught up in if I was you.

You never gave a ans. For my lic question. Do you need one for your state? If so, do you have it?
I don't think you have to have one... I know my husband was looking at some government work a few months back but since we didn't have WC and weren't registered as a business we could not turn in a bid?! maybe that was what he was talking about. We do carry INS. not sure of the in and outs of it, just know we have it, we do insurance jobs under SERVPRo and had to fax it to them.. also local factory needed when we got that job. "you peoples" are gonna help me with not being a self-motivator, my husband will be happy if i jump and get this accountant, lic, business name, and whatever else tand get this running like a real busineess like he is wanting. THANKS SOOOO MUCH!!!

I feel like this But we have 10 kids between us soooo, that is normal!!!

Only plumbers have to be licensed in Indiana

There may be some local licensing required.

Theres at least $750k that could have gone to legitimate business and not confused consumers. I love threads like this.

WE may not have all the business part right as of yet, but you know atleast we are working and not getting foodstamps and welfare checks. Also we are in it for the long haul....if you read my first thread u would see that my husband has plenty of experience with painting, and when we have a question we are not afraid to ask and we love advice from others!!!

If hard work were all it took then every fool hanging out here 16 hours a day would be a millionaire. If the long haul is now to October you are probably in it. Listen to these folks, you are so far out in left field you cant even see home plate. Sorry.

I wondered about that too?! I cannot imagine how your husband runs a business "in his head" with 8-15 guys? And supports anyone on those sales?

Any chance Nathan might start a site for people who WANNABE Professional Paint Contractors? It would be quite popular.

Or a password protected area for companies that can prove their legitimacy so we can share ideas with like minded people. - The whole reason why I dont want to contribute to the bulder/GC thread.

You know, that is a great idea! Over at CT they have a Politics and Religion section you have to have 250 posts to get in.

Such a site would probably draw better vendor advertising support, one would think it would be a good idea. Advertisers like to advertise in places where there are legitimate potential customers.
