Blastman

The custom body shop I use would have a guy come in from time to time to do soda blasting on the vets and such. He said the guy was a commercial airline pilot and was getting ready to quit his 150k year job because he was doing so well with the soda blasting pot. He had a guy running it when he wasn't around but evidently there was no shortage of work for something like that. I looked into it briefly and it would be maybe a 20k investment. Is the market that open for blasting alternative media?

I have somehow made a living for me and my family for the past 14 years doing specialty blasting and coatings. It took about 8 years for me to get a comfortable customer base, before that my business was all over the charts (peaks and valleys) no consistency, but by staying in the business and basically outlasting my competition, I have a steady thing going. If you have a reasonable amount of population to draw from and your diversified enough with various blast pots, you should be able to make a go at it. Check out how much competition there is in your area. If the 20 g's are only going to get you a 185 cfm compressor, a soda tank and the basic attachments that go along with it, I would personally say PASS, unless this guy is handing over several consistent re-peat customers to go along with the equipment, as it sounds like this guy was doing well. If no customers come with the deal, then just having a soda pot and compressor is just not enough and you will find yourself needing to buy additional (not cheap) equipment very soon in order to stay busy.

Did anyone bid blastman adieu when he left the building, oh say around four years ago?

we always welcome these flash in the pans, yet never bade them fare thee well
