Hey everyone!

I've been a frequent visitor of Paint Talk for a while now but finally decided to take the time to make an account. I've worked for just a couple years doing small interior painting projects in Massachusetts but I'm hoping to expand more in the years ahead. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all a little better and learning from all the experience you folks offer.

Welcome Malone to Paint Talk.com,

We have a great house of talented people here and will be delighted to share with you.
I started out the same way as you and now have the opportunity to work with an investor buying and flipping homes or buying them as rentals and coming back yearly for re-paints. She really keeps me busy as she buys left and right.
But welcome to Paint Talk, glad to have you

Welcome!

I remember back in 1985 when I was already working steady for a real good painting contractor, who himself was an ex union painter with old school skills. I believe he was twenty plus years my senior. I, being in my twenties, saw him as a mentor not unlike a good father figure.

What was interesting to me back then, was that I never entertained the notion of starting my own painting business. My values at the time, were to be the best employee I could be for this man, and to learn everything possible from him to be the best I could be. Even when I eventually found myself at a dead end as his employee, after eleven years, I still brought that value to every place else I worked.

What inspired you to start your own business after such a short time in the painting trade?

Thanks

I haven't just yet, actually! Still working with a small company and writing about painting (tips and tricks type stuff) on the side. I suppose when I say I want to "expand more" I'm talking about skill and knowledge though starting my own company down the line is the eventual goal.

I grew up on the North Shore but nowadays I'm living just outside Boston.

Welcome from Gloucester.
I seem to be a lot like you. Just finished my second year in business. I do mostly residential repaints. But, like you I am hoping to expand a bit--not too much. Would like to get into spraying cabinets and hopefully hire a helper this coming year.

Cabinet spraying is becoming really popular nowadays. My first year spraying cabinets had some deep learning curves but after that it's been nothing but fun.
