Default New Business in Oregon

Hey everyone!

Read a few topics on the site, and decided to join. Found that Pressure Pros, and others, were providing some great material, and figured that it would be useful for me to be on here.

I just started my painting business. Took me a couple months to get all the initial stuff done. Got licensed, insured, made up materials, made a website, designed a logo, etc. We focus primarily on exterior, so our season is finally coming up. It's been raining a lot.

Since we started marketing and sales a couple weeks ago, we've booked ~$18,100 in gross.

I'm probably different than many of you, in that I was never a professional painter. I was an avionics technician in the Navy, and then a finance major, up until I started this business.

As much as I hate to admit it among professionals, I did one of those crappy college painting company internships. I had a good season, but am certainly doing things drastically different this year. I've hired on some experienced painters for a crew, and have been getting some mentoring by a pretty experienced guy at Sherwin, and another guy who has run a painting company locally for about 6 years.

Here's to a good first year, with lots of learning.

Welcome to the group. Good luck. It can be tough at times. Watch as many videos as you can and read as much as you can about painting. There is so much to learn and know.

Thanks guys. I'll admit, I was surprised at how much there was to learn, with the variety of products, situations, equipment, and methods. I spend quite a bit of time reading the data sheets of various products, researching stuff online, and talking to the sales rep and assistant manager at my local Sherwin.
