Good Morning to all.
I'm kind of on the fringes here ....... I don't paint houses or walls ( at least not one colour only) but I'm a signpainter & muralist. Unlike most guys who still paint signs ( fewer of us all the time) I long since gave up on solvent based paints & switched to 100% acrylics.
That's how I found this site ...... I wondered what products BM would be selling at Canadian Tire & googled it.

I use mostly Porter AcriShield ..... I like the way it flows off a lettering quill. I dislike their reds though & use Para's red base when I need it.
I use several primers, the most common being BM Fresh Start & I use a primer called FSC 88 which is a really high build primer that can actually be used like body putty on very rough surfaces.

Beyond that, on concrete, brick or stone, I use Keim mineral based paint. It doesn't have the range of colours because they only use inorganic pigments but its longevity is unequalled. Murals I've done on brick walls should last 100 years.

I have some questions about primer but I'll save this for another thread. Anyone interested can look at my website www.trmacsigns.com I do what most of you guys do but with a much smaller brush. I hope I'm welcome here.

Welcome to PT!

We have a few members who do murals and signs on the sides of buildings but don't recall any that do your type of work. IMO it's more like art than what most of us do. Very cool.

You should be able to get a lot of excellent feedback concerning coatings.

Very nice work!
Some of what I learned about painting 30-some years ago was from an old-timer sign painter. I tip my hat to him and guys like you.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I really didn't know what to expect since what I do & what you guys do is only distantly related.
I'll do my best to be helpful on anything I know anything about.

Well, I can't tell you exactly where the MacMunns came from but somewhere in Scotland. The farthest back we've been able to trace on that side is a girl who came to Canada in 1840 or so. It was at one time spelled "MacIlmoon" & apparently one of my ancestors ( or ancestor's siblings) was killed at Dunoon in 1646 when the Campbells massacred the Lamonts.
I have much better records on the other branches of the family tree.
THere's not a lot of us, that's for sure. "Mc" or "Mac" makes no difference ...... often siblings spell it differently. A lot of this comes from army registration during WWI when a lot of people could barely read & write, let alone spell.

Thank you again for the warm welcomes. I haven't had time to look around here much but so far I like it. There are regulars here with a sense of humour ....... some forums aren't blessed with that.
