Default New Painter in Wa state

Hey i'm new to the site and the trade. Painted for a few years for other people, but now on my own. I need to learn how to bid and to get the right forms to use to bid. Does anyone have a good bid form to use? I found that excel spreadsheet to use to bid with. It seems pretty good by just filling in the width and length of a room and it gives the figures. Is that accurate to bid with you think? Thanks, Ed

welcome Ed.

have you tried stuff found in this thread https://www.painttalk.com/f4/free-business-forms-4553/ ?

you said

Quote:
just filling in the width and length of a room
and I assume you meant also height, as one needs to use square footage of the surfaces painted, not just the floor area.

I have always been a proponent of developing one's own customized spreedsheet bid forms. They would include linear footage of trim, windows (including number of panes), doors (incl number of panels), condition of surfaces to est prep needed, number of coats, etc.

Although I no longer paint but only do wallpaper, my estimates include the details needed to be attended to. Over the years the spreadsheet gets more and more refined and notes are forever taken as to the time it takes to complete tasks. I can not remember the last time I totally screwed up a bid.

Take a look what's in that thread and see if there is anything you can start with.
