Default New RI member/Color Consultant

Hello everyone,

I hope that it's Ok for me to join you. I am an architectural color consultant from southern RI. My business is new, started in January 2007, and I am finishing up the final courses in the Rhode Island School of Design interior design program. This is a career change for me after 15 years as an adult ed teacher, first in English as a second language, then art.

Since I have worked directly with homeowners so far it seemed to me that I could learn a lot about what the issues are regarding color choices when you are dealing with clients. I've already learned a lot about paint brand preferences from reading previous threads

I look forward to talking with you!

Beth

Excellent Beth, glad to see you here.

What new color trends do you see upcoming?

Do you feel there is a difference in basics and accents as used in the various regions of the country?

Thanks for the welcome!

Yes, there are huge regional differences in color use. Here in New England it's often difficult to coax people into a little more saturated color and you should see the faces if you suggest a ceiling color that's not white

Perhaps it's that my clients have asked me to help because they are so overwhelmed by possibilities in the first place. When they test the brighter(but not wild by any stretch of the imagination) colors I suggest they have been uniformly happy with the decision. They get quite giddy sometimes!

Nice to have ya, Lis. I'm a color nut also.. without any proper training of course. I remember reading awhile back that the number one reason people are afraid of using color is.... they are afraid of what other people will think.

Welcome Beth

LOL on the New England color thing
They don't call it The Land Of Steady Habits for nothing!
Out here if 87% of the houses in any given neighborhood don't have natural shingle sides and backs and white trim, they bulldoze the neighborhood and make a cranberry bog out of it...or a CVS or Dunkin Donuts

Giving directions in New England:
"Go down to the Dunkin Donuts, turn left, at the next Dunkin Donuts turn right, go past the third Dunkin Donuts and take another right, go 1/2 mile past the Dunkin Donuts an it's on your right"

...but I digress

Thanks for the welcome!
The post from Slickshift made me laugh! It's not just Dunkin Donuts and CVS here, surely! What about our regional specialties like Del's lemonade and New York System hot weiners? Once you've tried those you'll long for them forever

Beth

P.S. How nice to here that there are people out there who are tired of white ceilings!

Well, did anyone see oprah's green lid?
Did NOT look good, in my opinion.
But I wasn't asked.
