ehhh, it's ok, nothing to write home about
no offense...I just like a more personal sight with less words
and I can't stand the overuse of pictures of paint and such...too much for me, but hey that's just my opinion

Josh,

From your site: "JM Painting LLP was created in 2008 to provide inexpensive professional painting services for the Indianapolis Area." (emphasis added)

I'd get rid of "inexpensive" yesterday. You are setting the wrong tone with words like that. To the home owner "inexpensive" means cheap. To me "inexpensive" means somebody is going out of business but doesn't know it yet.

If you are going to make it in this business, inexpensive is not the way to go. If you do the kind of work you say, then you should be charging top dollar. If you can't sell at the right price-- that is, a price that pays you well and generates a profit-- you are going to wind up frustrated and broke.

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but I've seen tons of contractors go down that road. The biggest reason is not charging enough.

Also, the part where you describe yourself as an employee of another commercial paint company doesnt inspire great confidence.

Josh, I merged the productive posts from your other 2 threads into this one, and trashed the other threads. No need to start 3 different threads on the exact same topic.

Thanks for the advice guys. Sorry about the multiple threads, I'm new to this and wanted to make sure I was noticed. I'll get rid of the inexpensive...I don't plan to be the cheapest just thought it would appeal to customers. I think you are right about mentioning the other company I work with...if it make you lose confidence then it will others. The pictures are temporary. I'm currently photoing my crew and our work and plan to have more personal pictures up. Other than the pictures how else should I personalize my page?

A more ambiguous word that will get your message across may be "affordable".

I have one referral customer with whom I have been going back and forth for about two months over a pretty substantial scope of interior work. She emailed me on friday and asked if I had any flexibility to lower my proposal by 15-20%.

My response was a polite and irrefutable no, but much more eloquent and rational than it ever would have been in the past, when I would have responded: "No, but I am willing to do 15-20% less work for the amount I proposed."

For that I thank you. Your unwillingness to stop reminding us goofballs about numbers is appreciated and hopefully worth some of the energy you expend in doing so. Seriously, just knowing more about my numbers and what a request like that really means is important.

I think that the spilled paint cans and the bucket, and bush on news paper looks unprofessional.

I'm going to have two seperate pages with some articles, tips and advice. As well as discount of some sort. I might change the themes or add a couple.

This was my first response as well. It gives the impression that you will be spilling a lot of paint.

Definitely need to chnge your copy throughout. The "We Paint Anything" and "Inexpensive" makes you sound desparate. I kinda like the count down. Kinda. Just can't tell what it is.

I like the orange though

I planned on changing the pictures when I had some of my own, but I'm going to put some different fillers in for now. I thought the spilled cans went with the comments above them, but if it gave you two that first impression it will others. Thanks guys...Obviously I'm a painter not a website designer.

What is LLP? I know LLC but not LLP
Site is okay. Did you really paint the Flag Barn or is that taken from someone else?

An LLP is a partnership with some of the personal protection that an LLC has, but we are in the process of switching to an LLC.

Liked the site. Straight forward and kept me interested. Clients looking for your services may look at your site less analytically than your associates do. One note though...you should work on the layout of the page under Residential Painting...alignment of Bold print is off and Power Washing should be listed under Exterior, not Patch & Repair, spelling of Drywall, Ceilings and Special. All minor adjustments to your site.
