Default Painting in our Nation's Capital

Hi, my name is Jim. I am the Residential Sales and Operations VP of Tech Painting Co. Inc. in Alexandria, Va. Myself and a college buddy started the business back in 1987 as largely a residential painting company with one truck with just he and I painting. We now have 35 full time painters and have spread our base of operations to include commercial and light industrial projects as well as maintaining a strong residential presence in our market. Our business is split down the lines of the types of work we do. I have a counterpart VP in each of the following: commercial repaints, commercial construction and parking garage painting & striping.

Most of our work is in the Washington, DC metro area. We do have a full time crew that works exclusively in the residential beach communities of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Our commercial and garage painting divisions have done work in Philadelphia, Wilmington, DE and Rochester NY in addition to maintaining a substantial work load here in the DC area.

Our typical residential projects are on older homes, so we are firmly in lockstep with the RRP and a ever evolving strategy to maintain compliance. We've done a number of historic properties in the area, including but not limited to Gunston Hall Plantation, Christ Church of Capitol Hill, SS Williamsburg (Presidential yacht), and hundreds of 100 and 200 year old homes.

I found this site quite by accident but was glad I did. Even though I've tried to keep up to date with the latest changes in the RRP it was at this site that I discovered that the EPA was getting rid of the opt-out clause. Major bummer, but at least we are adjusting to this latest challenge.

I hope to learn more from this site and to be a help where ever I can.

More info about us including a story about our company can be found on our Facebook page here or at our website in my signature.

Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Not far from you. Depending on the traffic around the Wilson bridge, an hour and fifteen minutes. Been a long time since I have been in downtown Alexandria.

Welcome aboard.

Ahhh, that's no big deal, I did all that my first year.

Just kidding.

That is a super impressive resume.

In particular the restoration and preservation of the historic properties/homes. That is quite a portfolio.

Welcome.

Thank you all for the warm welcome and kind words. I guess I've been 'lurking' the last few days and not posting any responses just doing a lot of reading. I'll chime in when I can or if I think I can help the conversation.

Now if you have been lurking and reading, you know that is not required, chime in anytime!

Hello Roamer ! I've crossed paths with your guys in Universal buildings in Washington D.C .I just got to this forum myself , it's very helpful sometimes , very thoughtful sometimes and very bitter sometimes too , just like life itself . Glad this economy did nothing to wipe that smirk of your face .
