Default An effective marketing strategy?

I'm not suggesting anyone do this but it seems to be very an effective way to generate leads.

Had a call a few years ago that was a garbled message. I couldn't hear the number. I called what i thought was the number and left a message. The person called back saying it wasn't them but oddly enough, they needed service. House wash, roof wash, rebuilt two small decks and then sealed them.

Fast forward to today.. guy calls and he is distracted. Gave his name then said give me a call to set up an estimate.. no phone number. looked up his name and there were two in my service area. Called them both and left messages. Both called and said, "Nope, not me, but while I have you on the phone..". Going to look at both properties tomorrow. Too funny.

A variation on cold calling? -
"Oh Sorry. I was trying to contacting so and so about..."

Sort of let's you off the hook since you can play the role of a confused caller instead of a salesman.

Telemarketing is one of the most effective forms of marketing. The big downfall is that it pisses off a lot of people. This way you get the benefits without the bad rap. I think you may be on to something Ken.

I wouldn't tell anyone how to run their business. This is more amusing to me as its a seemingly perfect workaround to cold calling. It is not something I would implement for my business as it is also deceptive if done intentionally.
