Default On the importance of standing out from the competition: Seth Godin Video

A great video from Seth Godin on the importance of being different, differentiating yourself, making yourself stand out from the competition.

"In a world of too many options and too little time, our obvious choice is to just ignore the ordinary stuff. Marketing guru Seth Godin spells out why, when it comes to getting our attention, bad or bizarre ideas are more successful than boring ones."

I think Seth is right on the money here - the old concept of spending millions on interrupting people, that is, the belief that if only we could buy ourselves X amount of exposure, we'd win, is NOT working in today's fast paced world. We can, and do (as shown by marketing research, especially with the younger generation) very easily IGNORE all of these messages. We simply don't care about these marketing interruptions 99% of the time.

Instead, business, marketers, etc have to figure out how to get our ideas to spread "organically." That is, engage the consumer in such a way where they want to talk about you. This is the golden mine, but it's not so easy to get at it.
