I want to give a shout out to RCP and Bender they are the only one's here that have made any since at all.Some of you are so afraid that someone might learn some top secret info about how to paint or run a business. It is shameful.I feel good enough about myself and my ability to run a company that I don't have to constantly try to prove it to any of you guy's. You guy's have to remember Life is short and when get my age these things don't matter as much as they use to.I really come to care about all of you, but come on, we don't have to reinvent this site or any strange thing like that, we already send diy to other web sites.Let's try to care about people a little more and stop the personal insults when people don't use the same caulk or what ever that you use.Get over yourself. Whats funny is when I see your pictures on here and you look so young but you are as stiff as some of my worn out dust brushes.

Never argue with a fool - they will drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

well if someone is not legit or is cash only what makes them any different than a DIY'r?

Okay..... Given Wise's circumstances I cant fault him for doing the best he can with what he's got at this time. We all had to start somewhere, and from his posts I believe he's heading in the right direction. Some states have a fine line, some dont.

I built my business from scratch. Yes I had the money to start my business with what I needed, but I was single at the time and didnt have a wife and kids to support. It could've been alot different.

Is this forum a "good ol' boy" network, or is it to help our fellow painters, business owners or not, get going in the right direction? I've said many times that I dont judge a person by how they word their posts, when if you were to know them personally and have it said face to face, it may come across totally different.

Me? I'm passionate about what I do. I take it seriously, but am the first to laugh and have a sense of humor. Easy going, but dont take any crap. Some people have described me as aloof, but those are the people that that is what I want them to see. So you see, I can be many things to many people, but first and foremost; I'm a painter.

Stick around Wise. Sometimes we need the humor, the sarcasm, and a fresh dose of honesty. I would much rather have that than an ongoing line of BS and inanity.

I look at PT as a place to BS about painting. Running a painting business is really a small part of painting. Gaining the technical knowledge to ply our trade is much more difficult.

Running a (successful) painting business is not much different from running any (successful) business. Overhead, taxes, manpower, bla bla. You could be selling any service or any tangible item.

<snip>

So I guess what I'm saying is... Dont be to harsh on guys who havn't fit all the business pieces together. Some of us are trying to build mega paint corporations, some are happy being mom and pop outfits. Some want nothing but a check on Fridays.

What fun would this place be if we all had all the answers?

I liked these two posts, amongst others.

I think this thread evolved nicely. It got a little dicey, but people were allowed to talk it out. (who said "group hug"?)

What I would like to suggest is that sometimes, some people (myself a prime example) are floating trial balloons. They haven't really carried an infant thought out, and need some help. So they float it here. It's called being provocative serving or tending to provoke, excite, or stimulate

It's nice to be able to be provocative and have your half baked thoughts tossed back and forth without you being tossed in the fire and raked over the coals.

(and that right there was one of my many half baked thoughts)

Although I do not 100% agree that the thread needs to be locked, out of respect for and request by the OP, this thread is now:
