Default ANNOUNCEMENT: Upcoming Quarterly Giveaways

With the number of voters being so low in our last Paint Pro of the Quarter program, we are going to try something different this coming quarter. (If we find that this does not work we will bring back the contest next quarter.)

I would love to hear your ideas for some contests and random drawings.

Will the contest/drawing winners need a--what was it 250?--post minimum to participate/win?

Dodge Ram and Festool are the current ads running on my screen. My idea is to get them to give away one each of their 2015 offerings here…

That was just for the Contractor of the Quarter program.

No matter what you do Cricket some one will find a reason to bitch about how it's unfair.

I say leave it up to you big wigs while you sit back and drink your stiff drink and ask you self How the hell did I end up having to deal with b1tchy painters.

Maybe try this. Who ever makes a relevant topic with the most replies.

Or play pill my finger.

Or the big wigs just draw a name from a hat.

Honestly the mods and big may have to create some thing that will include every one.

I like it CD.

Who cares that by page 2 the relevant thread is no longer discussing the original relevant topic, or maybe even anything relevant at all. But we would all still be having a good time posting about something fun during our break or after quitting time. And there is something wonderful to be said for that.

I second CDs suggestion.

You could also experiment by asking people to vote for the best thread of the quarter. Choose five good ones if that is easier than nomination process. See if people are more apt to participate and vote when it involves lively threads?

Help you figure out if simply clicking was the problem or clicking to vote for a person was the problem.

Something along these lines seems logical. Could be a "thread of the month" or quarter give away. Could be based on participation, views, relevance to the industry. Probably should exclude off topic threads and focus on serious relevant content.

I think RH brought up a similar idea in another thread earlier. There would be some questions to work out, but something along those lines seems like a good option.

Take the voting aspect out of it, and the preceded "popularity contest" aspect. Make it something based on the quality of added content. As I've said before, that's all we can do here anyway is add content.

How about the contest be you don't get banned, and the reward be you can stay? That's how we did it old school style. Unfortunately, in this entitled internet community, everyone wants a gift.

Wait. I wasn't around for that.

The reason we have the Paint Pro of the Quarter program is because members here began demanding gifts?

Or did CA simply leave the whistling smiley of that post?

Is this one of his enigmatic moments that Woodford writes about?

Just do what you been doing. Ask a question, winner drawn randomly from replies.

No voting please, I'd like an opportunity to win...

I still think the person with the most posts, thanked the most, the top mentioned, and the top quoted should be written a blank check

After all he obviously doesn't have a life and needs some money to get out of the house and see a movie or SOMETHING.

------------------

Driftweed has a good point, something that evens the field for all who want a chance. Random choice does that

If it's a contest, some people will do all they can to unbalance the scales either for themselves or for/against another.

If you think that an award based on merit is most desirable, then the admins should name a person (without votes from us) and announce, "For consistently being the earliest poster every morning, this quarter's award goes to Chrisn", or something like that.

Is there a long history of this on PT?

Ben the Painter/Chef. Being way over there. Can't he post in tomorrow's threads today? Chrisn has some competition.

The Pro Painter of the Month/Quarter wasn't that long running, so I'm guessing "long history" would not be the best description.

I'm still waiting for Ben to post tomorrow's lotto results today

I seem to remember (not 100% sure) that gift certificates were being emailed, but hard goods were only available to members from continental US.
