    Hi Ken,

Have been reading allot of your posts on different topics. Really great info.

I have a few questions about washing exterior.

I am looking to clean exterior homes, siding and what not. Either it just needs to be cleaned (looks dirty and a little growth) or cleaning before a paint job.

My initial understanding is the stronger the pressure washer the faster more efficient the job is. Was thinking of getting a 4200 psi 3.5gpm Dewalt.

Then I saw some stuff on down streaming and low pressure washing with chems like bleech and soap.

So my question is, if I just want to do low pressure washing with chems do I really need a really powerfull pressure washer if Im just downstreaming, applying detergent and rinsing? How strong a pressure washer do you really need? If I'm only dealing with 1 and 2 story homes.

My other questions is the chemical process.

Heavy cleaning needs bleech, soap, rinse?

    Light cleaning just soap?

    Cheers

    Mike

Hi Ken, an I pick your brain on a project? I am bidding a log restoration project. They love the Adorondacks and their home mimicks that style. Lots of logs, not as siding but accents and their deck railing was made in the Adirondacks. All logs.
I plan on using the HD-80 followed by the oxcillac acid but the deck floors are Trex. Am I going to wreck the Trex?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Ken, after trolling the boards for quite some time I've come to learn that you are probably the best person to ask regarding a potential job I have. It is the exterior of the home which is all stained redwood. To their recollection it has been stained with a oil based semi-trans 2-3 times. The last time it was done was 10+ years ago. Even though they just want me to throw on another coat, I know the best thing to do is to strip it all back down to bare wood. The problem is that it is a large home and it would be a daunting task to say the least. My question to you is, what are the best chemicals, equipment, procedures etc... to use to efficiently strip 3 coats of old oil based stain? And where can I purchase the necessary products online? I've searched around my local area and no one carries any professional grade wood stripper. Thanks for any response in advance.

Ken, My Name is Matt Tedesco, I read & post on hear occasionally and as of the new year, I am focusing on building my painting business and would like to refer you out to my clients as someone who will handle any soft washing jobs that I currently do not have time to do.... In return you could use me as a recommendation for anyone interested in painting. I currently have a customer who wants their house washed when the weather breaks & I would like to pass your information along to them. They are in the skippack pa area & I want to check with you before I tell them that you service that area. I will give the details when I hear back from you. Thanks Ken,

He Ken, Congrats on the painting mag. article. ou probabl don't remember but we spoke before about using more chems and less pressure. I recentl did a deck that hadn't ever been cleaned or sealed. Its about 20 rs old. I have some pictures, but cant seem to post them here on painttalk. Could ou give me our e-mail and I'll send them to ou. This deck was a real mess and took me like 8hrs to clean and a barrage of chems to tr and loosen this stuff up. I would like our opinion for future decks neglected so severel.
Also I'm sure ou noticed for some reason m pc wont do wise(It wouldn't let me do the letter)

    Thanks for our time,

I have a question about hardwood deck prep.

You gave me some sound advice about deck stain for teak. Thanks. Next question is about prep. Do you have a prefered method? Not meaning to sound DIY, but I have stained a ton of decks and pressure washing typically suffices. Of course, all these decks have been redwood, cedar or pressure treated. I have heard a few people talk about sanding and laq. thinner wiping for Ipe and I am thinking this is either overkill, misinformation or the truth. Who knows? I don't, but I bet you do Thanks again in advance for helping me out.
