This summer, I'd like to set a video camera up on a exterior and record the whole process, from washing to scraping to finish....Then speed it up and put it on a website...anyone ever try this?

Also I'd love to put out a commercial where I either feature the video above
or just a bunch of my customers. My local cable company offers spots that can play in any neighborhood I choose, they are done like direct mailing. I can also pick the channel. I think they are priced reasonable.

What are your thoughts?

Interesting idea. I have considered a similar idea of producing safety and skill training videos in the field.

I would suggest looking into someone with professional video experience though. You want a high-quality finished product. Most homemade videos look homemade.

Also be sure that the workers are working safely. Its amazing how many programs I see where workers are not using safe practices or protective equipment.

Yup. A crew of young females and bikini painting would probably do pretty well since most construction is on a downslide and all the good ole boys are sitting at home with a beer anyway... Give em a show to watch!
Sponsors shouldn't be too difficult to line up after the first week or so...

good idea. also, why not make your video, put it onto 1000 dvd's and send them to the most affluent neighbourhoods. people's natural curiosity will be to wonder what's on them and play them. could work.

Man! You have hit on something that has great potential! Especially if you follow Tmrrptr's suggestion of young babes painting! ;)

No seriously, I bet you have a winner here. And the possibility of using cable will put you in front of a lot of people. When I was in college we did a little research on marketing using cable, and it seemed like a really economically good choice. Thing is you do want to get someone with a little experience behind the camera, no like the fools that made that last movie with the statue of liberty loosing her head, as I heard that a lot of folks had to leave the theatre because they had vertigo.

Happy painting, Paul.

Cool idea Kelly.

The company i used to work for created a "paint training" video where they taped people doing various tasks, timed them, and ran the clock in the bottom, then after the point was made, sped it up. So that way, new painters could do various tasks, and how much time it should take. It was pretty neat.

I used tv last year, had the commercial professionally written and produced, and it was broadcasted into 1 million homes across 4 cities. Cost me 7500 over a 3 month span and it aired 40 times a month.

Guess what I recieved from it....0 leads. but hey my grandma said it was nice.

You don't have to neccessarily put it on TV. There is cheap software out there that will allow you to edit it and make videos for YouTube or your website. You'll have to compile the video and make it watchable but you could have a ten part video outlining the whole process, throw in bloopers and highlights etc.

Another idea that would probably get you on the news or at the very least some viral marketing exposure would be to do Live Casts. It would be more expensive to have the connection but you could partner up with a homeowner that has a wireless connection and tap into it. I would tune into it waiting for you guys to mess up so I could come back here and post about it ;-)
