Opinions everybody...Is Aura the best exterior paint? We like it on old buildings because of the high build..it has elastomeric properties..and darker colors will hold out better b/c of the colorants. Do you think the SW Duration compares? We have a project in August spec'd for Duration

Here is our current condo repaint projecthttp://housepainting.shearerpainting.com/p/2134203788/back-brushing-paint-improves-adhesion we will use about 700 gallons of Aura:

I watched the video of your company priming cedar for a fence you are to paint.

Just curious why you chose to paint fencing rather than stain it.

Seems like the customer wanted the longest lasting finish possible, but talk about a nightmare to maintain it!

I would be curious to hear your thoughts.

Hi TJ, Thanks for watching the video, and your commets. When we have the chance to prime all six sides and then let the primer and paint dry in our shop for four weeks before assembly it lasts longer. Part of the equation is aesthetics; the fence is adjacent to the house and attached carriage house; the desire was to have the finish be spot on. In this case the final color/sheen is not yet selected but it will probably be a higher sheen.

We stain most fences especially if they are already built.

We did a condo project in Westport CT. Phase 1 in 2010 used 350 gallons of Duration. Phase 2 was identical mirror image and got speced Aura Low Lustre. Total used was 175 gallons. Contractor was blown away at the spread rate and hide.

If its speced for duration, use emerald instead. It is light years better. And duration ain't no slouch.

That has been our experience also with spread rate; although we see a 25% increase in coverage..seems like you are at almost 40%. On a historic home project we re-coated the trim with white and the Aura was very high build we had to back off the second coat because we were afraid of losing detail in the molding.

at the risk of sounding rude......isn't the wrist swinging and why not use a 9" roller and role up and down? when you role side to side like that the tip of the roller is actually removing paint from the bottom of each siding board.

Pretty much says all you need to know about the comparison between the two products. Makes duration a very expensive paint.

Nace,
Those are some incredible stats bro. I assume with that volume of material you guys were spraying. I am going to keep this in mind on my next job. Thanks buddy.

I am very curious to see how well emerald does in color. I have only applied high reflective white in gloss and its a champ. Spread rate was really good, but I was using AAA, so transfer efficiency is really good. Not sticky at all, even in direct sun at 97 degrees where we brushed.

Not really surprised, SW exterior products have terrible SQ FT coverage rates(least in my expierence), duration being the most notorious
