This is a picture of my parents bath tub.
They don't want to spend the $$$ to get a new one, so they asked me if I could apply some sort of paint to just slow down the rust, and make it look a bit better. It has been years since I used any 2-part epoxy, and the last time I inquired about it, the paint rep looked at me with crossed eyes, and acted like either he didn't know, or wasn't willing to give up any product info. How would you guys prep this, and what paint would you recommend. TIA

Prowallguy, i am unable to help with your question but, wanted to say that i would also replace the waste and overflow. Comes in a kit costing $30 to $40. Just changed mine a few months ago. I had some rust and discoloration that was able to be covered with the overflow cap.

There used to be a guy on either APN or Papernet that did tub refininshing. I inquired of him once on what to use and how to do it because I had a possible customer that wanted it done. Nothing ever came of it but here is his website address and the address for the materials he suggested.

If you like, I can back channel you the instructions that he e-mailed me.

Rough up the area to be repaired remove rust,i sometimes use a 4" grinder w/hard abrasive disc for metal.then cut a metal patch with scissors and shape it to fit the area so it rebuilds the hole to the original size.perforated metal patch can be found at the auto zone or kragen and bondo fiberglass reinforced filler same place.you can also use perforated metal dry wall patch found at any hardware store.some times u will need to hold patch down until bondo dries hard enough so patch is flush takes a couple min.sand away with a da sander or any sander you have until u are happy with the shape hand sand away scratches 100 g .it really is easy to do,any caveman can dooooo it.
