advertising makes a difference!

I just wanted to share with the new guys the power of advertising.

I'm about three years in with my company, and have always worked on word of mouth only, This year I invested in really nice lawn signs, a bunch of t-shirts and banners..yup 10 footers. I made deals with local businesses
and have the majority of main street locked in with my name plastered everywhere. It's to the point where you can drive thru town and see my phone number about 10 times.

I still have never put an add in any paper or have done anything to that level, but my business is busier than I have ever been. People have called from my signs every other day... I am having trouble keeping up with all the paperwork. i am still small compared to most companies on this forum, but the amount of business has forced my to hire more guys and take less days off. I'm buying new ladders (for the first time in my life) extra powerwashers and sprayers.

So in conclusion, I say to all you newbies...it does get better, just keep moving along doing above average work and advertise a little. The rewards will be amazing.

Thanks for that great tip. I also a business owner, still trying to work everything out now that the holiday is over.

Could you explain what you are trying to work out now that the holiday is over? Perhaps we could help...
I am a small company, myself and 1 employee, been in business for 11 years. I survived by word of mouth for many years; gradually added yard signs, lettering on vehicle, thank you cards after job completed, yellowpages more for credibality then providing leads and magnets, pens & note pads with my name on them and leaving business cards where ever I go, out of all of these the yard signs and vehicle lettering have helped a lot and word of mouth still seems to remain the strongest. This year we are adding shirts with logo and lettering. I consider myself lacking in marketing and should consider doing more but I just don't make the time to do it.

Nice post. It's great to hear someone taking the bull by the horns and being successful. Awsome!

Mostly advertising and getting my license for my business and finishing some doors I started.
That's great to hear. Am slowly adding more money to the advertising budget and hope I get similar results.

How did you get people to let you hang banners on thier property, or where do you hang them?
I washed the front of their businesses for free to hang a banner on the building. Took money off interior quotes last winter with the understanding that signs could be placed this summer. Also I have multiple jobs on Main st. for my lawn signs. I'll take a few pics when I can and post them.
