Hey guys, I am back in the market of beeing my own boss and I am faced with the task of forms of advertising.

I already have some ads on my local classifieds, I have my own website and business cards.

What other forms of advertising tend to work the best and hit the market directly?

Thanks in advance.....

Get a PO BOX, a BULK RATE STAMP #, contact a mailing list company, put together a GREAT flyer, and hit a print shop. Go double sided printing, and triple folding ... then lable yourself. Mail 1000 a week, and wait for the phone to ring! After that ... get creative ...

I prefer a more targeted, multi mailing approach. Hit each name on the list with a combination of introduction letters (use a magnet inside to get people to open it), postcard mailers, door hangers with support advertising in a website, local classifieds, church bulletins and perimter marketing. I have had great success dominating small geographic areas one by one. The ROI far exceeds a shotgun approach.

Craigslist.com (Free advertising)
AngiesList.com ( Great Ad prices! )

Constructionmonitor.com ($50 per month) Mail out to GC's in your area a flyer about your business.

Paint a house, or during the painting process, walk the neighborhood with a flyer.

Search: "Advertising" on this site.

What if I could show you that by spending the exact same amount of money and targeting 1000 people 3 times (my version) versus targeting 4000 people one time will gross you the double the volume of initial sales and will, in the long run, make all of your future marketing easier and less expensive?

Would you pay $99? Crowd: Boooooooo
Would you pay $49? Boooooooo
Today for the low price of an open mind and willingness to abandon old school methods, you can have this offer absolutely FREE !

This has been my approach this year, I have sent out two of the mailings with a third later this year. I am waiting to see if this approach is worth it.

M,

Be sure to stay on a rapid time frame. You basically target a smaller, targeted mailing list (as drilled by demographics and geographic location) in four to six weeks and then move on to the next area.

Ken

My granddad always said, if you're gonna rob a bank, do it alone.
If I was gonna rob a bank, I would want you with me.

Seriously though, great post. I agree with the targeted approach over shotgun.

thanks Pro. This confirms the approach I have been developing over the past several months.

I began with the area around my own neighborhood. Began from my home as center and have targeted homes out to one mile from my home. Each mailing and inclusion results in 3-4 closed sales per 100 mail outs.

I'm curious what offer or "call to action" you are using. Have you tested different pieces?

I use the below on a postcard. I am fortunate to have very target able homes in my target area. Upper end starting at 200,000 to 600,000.

No upfront deposit? I have considered that but I look at the deposit as a form of ownership to the HO and myself. They now own a new paint job and I now own a new contract. Something like that..... Anyways.... my 2cents on that.

I am canvasing the area we are painting in today. I have 40 flyers that give the address of the home we are finishing and a discounted priced for different dates through the year. The discount helps to get the phone to ring. It's been REALLY slow. My phone hasn't rung for 2 weeks and that is not normal for this time of year. I have 4 jobs that will put me into the middle of June, I have some time to work up some advertising and this is my very first time canvasing homes in this style. We'll see how this works... ;)

In the case where I canvas with flyers that have an address, is only on the same street as the home I painted. So, everyone that gets the flyer has the same address just a different house # and they most likely know the HO I did work for. Otherwise I agree with you crow, passing out an address is just lame and not very considerate. ;)

I rarely ask to take pictures. I tell them I'm taking pictures. I have had a couple HO's in my years question me and watch what I take pictures of, but never had anyone tell me not to.

Father's Love thing man, you betcha!
