anyone own one or tried the new air assisted airless graco pumps? I demoed one at a paint store, and once dialed in it seemed good....anyone?

The place I worked for for the past 8 years used Graco Air Assisted airless sprayers ALL the time, They always felt you get a little more control over airless, but now they have slowly switched over to airless in the past 2 yrs, there are a lot of products you have to thin down (not as bad as HVLP, but still thin down some), and you sometimes ge5 blemishes.. I have a HVLP, and I am not going to take a chance on air Assited, and just go for the airless.

Have the Finish Pro 395. It is a nice machine. Used it and a HVLP on the same job two weeks ago. It puts more material to the wall with about the same amount of over spray. You can use it as strictly airless (don't need to turn on compressor) or air assited to give HVLP type performence.
What I like best about it is you only need one machine on the job to perform tasks that used to take two machines. (Yes... I just said we had two machines on the same job but that was for a comparison)
It does take some getting used to, but for us the main selling point was being able to apply a fine fininsh with todays thicker latex paints. We were looking at a new HVLP with 5 tubines that do the same thing, but this machine was cheaper and can perform two jobs. A multitasker that is cheaper.

Bikerboy,
I'm using my Capspray 9100 4 turbine more frequently with a remote pot.

Either the 2qt, or the 2 1/2 gallon which I can set a 1 gallon can inside.

I have 15ft and 25ft 1/4" hoses I use with the big pot, and the 5ft'r that comes with the 2qt pot.

Do you use remotes, or the gun mounted cup, mostly?

Our HVLP's are older setups (15-20years) with gun mounted cups. That was one reason we were looking to upgrade.
I don't have the remote for the HVLP. It would be nice to have the remote setup so I can turn the gun any direction and spray longer between refills.

I purchased a Finish Pro 395 in July. We do mostly new construction and strictly spray trim, doors, and shutters with this machine. Once dialed in it provides an awesome finish. The only draw back is the finish tips only last one - two houses. The most difficulty we had was when the machine was delivered. The Graco Rep had limited use because the machine was new on the market.

Bikerboy,
You can get a nice graco or binks pot for 3 or 4 hundred...

I use a cheapo 2 1/2 gal from harbor freight for $50

They've also got 1qt remotes.

The gages and regulators aren't great, though...

OK, so that means job cost goes up thirty bucks a house, right?

I'm gonna try it...

HVLP is slower. That is fact.
I like it mostly because of the low overspray.

I'll try those dual atomize FF tips on my next interior to speed things up.

We typically use the graco 212 Fine finish tips. We spray fresh kote semi in white and bone white. The compressor is turned up to 30psi. We turn the air on 100% at the gun and turn it back a half turn. The pump is set from 2400 - 2650. There is a guideline to follow on the side frame of the machine. It gives settings for different products. Dont be affraid to lay it on with latex. You may need to take the filter out of the gun and clean the bill off after a while with a fine bristle wire brush. Keeping the bill clean on the gun is essential for a quallity finish.
