AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands - AkzoNobel is planning to build an additional plant at its Ningbo multi-site for its Functional Chemicals business. The new EUR 17 million project, part of a total investment of EUR 275 million, will further expand the company’s rapidly growing organic peroxides activities.

Production of chelates has already started at the location, while new ethylene amines and ethylene oxide factories are also due to come on stream later this year. The new unit is expected to be operational in late 2011.

The new organic peroxides plant will produce Perkadox 14 (used for different types of rubber and thermoplastics) and Trigonox 101 (used for rheology control of polypropylene and synthetic rubbers). They are used in industries such as automotive, building and construction, as well as for durable goods. Demand for both products, notably in Asia, is rapidly increasing.

The formal inauguration of the Ningbo site, which occupies a 50-hectare plot and offers ideal opportunities for any future investments, will take place in November this year.

So that new plant has nothing to do with the commercial/residential paint products there? That plant is just for those specific things?

Well i find it interesting they are growing and have such a huge market.

Your signature ' Buy American' (which btw I agree with) conflicts with your post. Is this a stock tip or a warning that more fun filled Chinese lead soaked products coming our way?

AKZO is not just Sikkens, they're the parent company. AKZO is probably one of the largest chemical companys in the world, and if I remember correct, they're based out of the Netherlands. So they actually brought jobs TO North America.

They are probably now the biggest paint company in the Uk..A few years ago they bought Crown paints..one of our 'big three' then last year bought ICI Dulux brand..

The monopolies commision told them they had to get rid of one of the two...ICI Dulux is the brand leader so they put the Crown name and brand up for sale..at the moment Sherwin Williams look favourite to buy it..PPG another one of yours apparently bought the Johnstones/Leyland name from Kalon so they wont be allowed to buy the Crown name..

AkzoNobel has owned Flood for quite a while, purchased ICI a couple of years ago. They are THE largest paint company in the world, by far. More than twice the size of S/W.
Yeah true, I thought ici was the largest. Well......now akzo owns them soooooo........
