sorry guys another cabinet painting queston from me...i did try the search engines first though..i did my second kitchen wih yolo colorhouse cabinet and trim paint.i know many would advise using other paint for cabinets but they wanted a environmentally friendly paint used(young baby spending alot of time in area)...i used the thinnest whizz and nine inch roller i could find since the cabinet faces are flat and for a factory like finish...my worry is they might dirty quick and be hard to clean...would it be crazy to put a clear finish on top of the paint on the doors(obviosly it might not be eco friendly doin this but its there concern now....its for a friend not a customer......sorry it was another cabinet question and it was long too

Now they want to change the plan?
Green...but not to green as it might inconvenience us?
These people sound like the type that would want a hybrid SUV...

Good grief

No...there is no good reason to clear coat cabinets after painting them IF the proper product was used in the first place
The proper product would be something that cleans well

If a product that does not clean well is used, then the proper fix is to coat it with a product that does...not a clear coat, but an enamel or something
The labor/product cost is the same to put clear coat or colored enamel on there...use the enamel

I painted some built-ins for an office once. I used Ben Moore latex satin impervo. Looked great, smooth as a baby's bottom. Customer decided that they wanted the desktop to be shiny. I clear-coated it with latex varnish and it did the trick. So the point here is that if you want to clear coat it, it could be done.

Zpaint,
Slickshift, well put. Clear coats will work, only if you use the right ones. It is similar to glazing the cabinets as far as application. I would use a high end product like BM "Stays Clear" or our product, if you are near us, "Kel-Thane II. Both have great adhesion and are very durable.

Most clears dry quick, so spray application is definitely the best. For the future, don't use the YOLO products for cabs. It just simply does not dry hard enough. Go for the high end latex enamels that cure to a hard finish. Our Dura-Poxy line is humbly, the best there is for a single component arch. coating. Good luck.
