What if I gave every customer that I refinished a deck for a floor squeegee to help them maintain the beauty of their "new" deck. This way they would feel that I want to help them save money in the future. It could say something like "Time to get your deck restored? Call Tsunami Contracting at XXX-XXX" or something along those lines.

I think that's a pretty good idea. Doubt most of them would use it, but it's a free gift which people like & talk about, and it'll have your name & number on it for future work.

I think it's a really cool idea, as the others said it offers advertising for you and it's a gift to customer.
I leave every customer with a note pad, ink pen & magnet with my name and number.
In the past I have given candy dishes. Was thinking about coffee cup with the pen & pad insterted in it.

Another idea: Leaving paint cans with a label with your info on it. Doing interior I try to break down the gallon cans into quarts, labeled with paint and room info.
There are those that make a good point about the improper disposal of these labeld items returning to haunt you. I've actually received leads from new homerowner of previous jobs.

Touch up cans with labels printed saying room, color, wall, and contact. I have been working on getting this set up. Not sure what I want to put them in though. Cans do not hold in the solvents very well. Maybe glass jars with better sealing lids? Or these as they have no metal in the paint area so they wont rust and get rust clumps in the paint.

I use metal quart cans and advise my customers to keep in cool dry place.
By the time they rust it's time for a new paint job.
Tsuami, those jars looks nice but may cause a problem for home owner opening, that lid flips over, and hangs off the side of jar.
Canning jars come in pints and quarts, the lids provided are metal but I have seen plastic screw on lids sold by the dozen.

P.S. glass containers can break!

I wouldn't think the plastic lids would seal worth a darn. Needs to be a wide mouth jar so they can dip a brush in it for touch up. Those jars are pretty beefy and I would probably have to put a warning on it. Otherwise the plastic mayo jar lids with the extra seal pad on the inside maybe.

Any toy would be a good idea but I don't see a squeegee working on an average deck. I could see if the deck was a smooth surface without bumps, divots and spacing. I just don't get the use for why you are giving.

Use one all the time. works well enough. I am getting one for a family with an autistic kid who would really like something like that (its an autistic thing, a lot of them like water).
I guess i'm wrong brother. If you use and it works then you know more than me. I've never tried using one on decking so thanks for learning me today.

The lids I was referring to are wide mouth and do seal well. You will find them in the canning department. While there check out the quart jars, made a label and use the plastic lid. Aren't those jars you mentioned a little pricy?

Hey I have an idea. How about rather than worry about setting up the homeowner with a cute touchup jar that they wont use, we keep in touch with them. During the warranty period, check in with them and see if everything is holding up alright. Then the end of warranty call, which often leads to the "hey can you come and paint our upstairs now?" call. They will be much happier with your service after the sale than your touchup jar.
