I have perused Paint Talk and have gained much respect for the pro painters on this forum, and would appreciate your advice.

I have 17-year-old house with the original stucco. The stucco parapets are cracked and crumbling on top.
I called a contractor to fix the stucco parapets, and he suggested painting the entire wall with elastomeric paint.
But the vertical stucco looks like new: no cracks and no fading.
Would applying elastomeric paint to vertical stucco make it last appreciably longer?
Is "waterproofing protection against wind-driven rain" really an advantage for stucco?
I live in the desert and it rains about 20 times a year, and freezes about 20 nights a year (it's almost always dry when it freezes).

Thank you.
