Anyone have any experience with this product? I have a job where HO wants Aura semi used for the trim. I was wondering if it will be necessary to use it and/or if it is better than XIM and Floetrol. Necessary meaning that Aura is not compatible with XIM or Floetrol. I am not the fastest brush in town so I know I will have to use something. Mysearch came up with a tiny bit of info on the subject.

I wouldn't use it for the trim
Trim (IMO) is not the issue
It's stuff like 6-panel doors

Don't get me wrong, the stuff dries quick
But I'm quick, it just doesn't bother me
I wouldn't think it'd bother most pros
You just don't have 20 minutes of wet edge there

However, stuff with lots of brushwork, like 6 panel doors, you can run into problems
I haven't worked around that one yet...it's not for the faint of heart...or slow of brush
That may be a good use for the extender

Linear footage....I wouldn't bother
There's plenty of open time for that stuff

I will know more tomorrow. I will be demoing a quart of extender tomorrow hopefully on an interior trim job and will let you know how it goes.

I have only brushed a little Aura (no extender) for trim work, just trying it out, on stuff like raised panel cabinet doors or 6-panel doors, it sets too quick for me to get all the brush marks to flow out where they overlap. On trim like door casings with careful brushwork, it worked great. I am hoping the extender will just added enough open time that all the brush marks blend together well. It is not supposed to increase the dry time, just the open time and also has some additional resin in the extender to keep everything in balance in the paint. Adds very little VOC to the paint also/

I am slow with the brush. Like a herd of turtles. I found the open time on the semi to be much more user friendly than on the aura satin, which we had used on trim a few times. The semi is a much better trim product.

How would you say it stacks up (Aura semi) to WB Satin Impervo? The Impervo with no slicker is my speed limit; faster than that and it is going to get real ugly.

I used the Aura extender with satin interior Aura today. It worked great. I compared it side by side with Waterborne Impervo and liked it better than Waterborne impervo. Flowed out better. It looks like I have a favorite new interior trim paint.

Could you elaborate a bit on the Aura Extender? Is it an extender only or a conditioner also? Was your comparison to WB Imp without an additive in the Impervo?

Did you try the Aura without the extender?

I am salivating for more info..........wait........just drool...asleep on keyboard.

The WB impervo was not conditioned. Straight out of the can. I have used Aura on trim a little before without extender and it sets too quick for my on detailed areas. So far, with the extender, it seemed to have enough open time that it was not an issue.

I will have to do some more testing yet and I would like to time how long to recoat (supposed to still be 1 hour recoat). It did level better than the WB Impervo. I have always felt WB impervo is a soft compared to other enamels and does not adhere that great on tough to stick to surfaced. Aura is harder, but I have not given it a good adhesion test yet.
