I have a job coming up with Aura, has any one here used it enough to tell me how far will it go ? The can says 400 plus sqft but I don't believe that , how can it go farther than regal and apply it twice as heavy as it directs 4 / 5 mills. I havent used it yet, but I here it will cover in one coat even deep base.
My paint store says it will cost me $47.00 a gl seems like a lot to me.
Is that what most are paying?
Thanks BPTL

Much better paint base technology than regal.

Significantly better than regal, but not the silver bullet it is marketed as.

Yes. It is worth it for its coverage, and more importantly fast dry times, so if you do have to rework an area you can do it in an hour or two.

Thanks Timhag, just what I needed. I suspected it was not a true one coat paint . have never seen one, and close is not good enough.
This homeowner is trying to get me to cut my price because he thinks it will take one coat to do all his rooms, not gona cut nothing but his rooms two coats for the price I gave.

Used it the other day for the first time. Just did below the chair rail so I didn't get to see the square footage here but the coverage was definitely there WITH ONE COAT. It seemed like it really didn't have that much body like the Regal/Duration but I really liked the finish product.

We used it here for the red under the chair rail with Regal on top and Duration for the trim.

We have used aura a few times in the last few months. The deep colors seem to cover well and all other colors seem to cover ok. Still needs two coats to get even coverage. Do not overwork the paint it dries very quickly. Cut everything in and allow to dry, then start rolling

If the colors are close I would yes it would cover in one. The thing I liked about it was the patches didn't flash and the it evened out which means close should cover once.

I did a deep red and it covered in two which was better then the 4 I expected with other BM lines.

Yes...the Aura is worth extra, not less
Besides, remember to sell the job not your labor
You are more than just a labor monkey with a brush

Regardless, there is still no such thing as a true one coat paint yet
So I wouldn't bid any Aura jobs at any less anyway

my local paint store gets $47 per gallon,,,,

id plan on 2 coats for any color,,,,,

the part i like is the quick recoat time,,,,but you can get a 1 hr recoat time from regal also

and the touch ups do flash,,,,,at least that was my experience

i also like the tough finish,,,,very tough stuff

id also prefer a stiff bristled brush

i spread over $2000 of aura in january,,,,,the homeowners liked the look,,,,my guys liked the recoat time

my guys and myself included prefer the look of duration home or graham ceramic for trim,,,,,,

the aura is really nice wall paint

I have also used a lot of Aura these last couple of years and have to agree with what everyone has said so far. The question is, why pay 47 bucks for paint that probably needs two coats anyway? It's got low VOCs and that's a good thing. Right now I use Aura for dark accent walls and I have found that Aura on trim is awesome. It bonds like crazy and if you work fast and wipe the edges, you can get a great finish. Beware of using the right roller nap!!!! It runs like a mofo if your nap is too thick.
All in all a good product, not as great as they hyped it up to be though and takes some getting used to.

$47.00 a Gallon...I paid $65.00!!! cht!

Anyway I know it says low VOC but the smell of Aura is much stronger and seemed to stay in the room longer than SW Duration. I liked the leveling and used it to build up an area that had peeled when removed door casing. I used medium to dark and was told by BM rep that Aura, though it would cover in 1, was still going to achieve a truer color on the 2nd coat. Though the rep said Aura touchups could not be detected on their demo in-store, I found this to be a different scenerio in practice. (NOTE: their demo was a textured pvc door, not a flat wall)

I have been using all BM products and am newly trying out SW to compare...happier with price, customer service, and product from SW.

It really excels for those applications like deep reds, orange, blues that with regal would take sometimes up to 4-5 coats to get right. Aura will do it in two. I won't pay for it in pastel colors or whites, but for colors I really like the way it works and especially the recoat times. It does pay for itself. And the low odor, low voc blah blah...

I've never ever never ever ever in my life needed to use 4-5 coats for any color for Regal. The worst absolute worst deepest blue that had no coverage ability whatsoever looked beautiful in 3 coats, on top of a previously white wall. Now this is before they reformulated Regal - I am sure the stuff is crap now that couldn't cover white with beige in 2 coats.

I have had to do 3 coats with Aura in Rhubarb Red to make it look beautiful.
The same tone in Ace Royal touch paints did it one coat - go figure!
