Since closing up shop a couple months ago, I have landed a fantastic job. I recently completed some sidework for a customer I've had for a while now, very professional guy, also a very successful businessman for over 30 years. He saw my new car, asked if I would mind a 45 minute commute, and offered me a lucrative position in his company. Just like that. I don't want to disclose too much here but I am in a job that I can envision staying at and growing in for the long haul. And I have only my professionalism, impeccable work ethic, and friendly personality to thank for it. (his words)

Guys, it pays to be nice to customers and to always treat each and every one with the utmost respect...you never know where it may lead.

I just thought I'd share with you all, sort of a follow up to my bitter sweet post, but with a subject that can surely stand alone.

I learned a harsh lesson many years ago. This shows the flip-side of this subject.

I was driving to a job, and had an altercation on the highway. I don't recall exactly what happened, but someone got cut off, or something similar, and it ended up at a stoplight with myself and the other driver standing outside our vehicles ready to duke it out. A cop coming from the other way saw it, and hit his siren, then loudspeaker, telling us to cool it, and move on. So we did.

I get to the job, and start working. Around lunchtime, the lady of the house mentions she has to leave, but her husband will be home shortly.

Yeah, you guessed it. The husband was the same guy from the morning drive. We both stared at each other like deer in headlights, and he walked off into the back of the house. Nothing was said, I got paid by the designer, but I obviously never heard from them again.

I learned my lesson.

thanks so much guys...

PWG, that sounds like something that would happen to me too. I'm just now getting better at not being so aggresive on the road with the boy on the way....

I think the qualities I've gained most from having owned my business are confidence, reliability, honesty, good communication, and drive. It's amazing how things have come full circle for me. I am thorougly convinced that I couldn't have been where I'm at without having had my business.

My job...
I am working in a warehouse environment. I'm picking, packing, shipping, etc. Great communication with my co-workers and with our large customer base is essential. It's a cush job...lots of vacation time, paid holidays, sick time, etc. Not to mention fantastic pay. The plan is for me to take over all warehouse operations in the not so distant future. But for now I'm just learning the ropes.
