Best Paint for a Window Sill That Gets Sticky

356 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  cocomonkeynuts
I have a customer with a large window sill, about 12 inches wide. It was painted about 10 years ago, so it is well cured. It doesn't feel sticky to touch, but when they set something on it, say a piece of paper, the paper will stick to it and leave part of the paper on the paint. I plan to prime it first with Stix, but not sure what paint to use on it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Bm Command would work well for that.

Yes that sounds like a good idea! Thanks
It's a condition called Plastisizer migration or a bond that is formed between latex acrylics and things that are put on the film. The two things want to marry since arylics never completely cure. Command or Break Trhough is good choice, or an alkyd enamel if available.

I've been using Advance for years at this point and I've yet to have it stick to stuff on shelves or sills.

Same. Just don't put it on heavy or you'll have issues.

What do you think about Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel? It's interior and exterior urethane.
I think I forgot to mention that it's black. Do you think color could possibly play a part?

That certainly doesn't help. If it were me I'd use Breakthrough in their packaged Wrought Iron Black.

if ready mixed it would be less likely to occur. If tinted to black with a universal colorant the film is weaker and softer.
