is it everywhere or is it just good practice, some extieror doors that I've done have a stamp on top warranty voided if not sealed some dont.. if im staining the door, is clear good enuff or should I still prime the tops and bottoms..

There was a certain GC I used to work for who demanded all 6 sides be painted, interior and exterior.

I still do it on exterior, but don't on interior, unless you can see the top or bottom from a second floor or stairwell.

How much, or what you use will depend on the circumstances; IE do you live in a humid area etc.

This garage door needed to be sealed within 5 days of installation. I actually had to call the the company with date of completion. Same with the installer, had to call with installation date.

what did you seal it with just the clear??

It was actually a stain the HO had ship in from Atlanta, it was a fruit wood stain.

I install interior & exterior doors for a millwork company and on the retail side do the complete job including staining and painting. The paint 6 sides is the way for the manufacture to get out of puchasing a replacement door. Most of your exterior doors have a composite frame or rote free (treatment at factory) & are very stable painting 6 sides is best to cover your but so you cant be blamed. Most all interior doors are made so cheaply these days even painting all 6 sides does not prevent them from warping or delaminating. Bi-folds are the wost! The suppliers know this so they say 6 sides because they know most painters in production are not going to take the doors down to paint the bottem so they will have an out with the builder or homeowner. Just what I have run into and found out working the warrentee side of production homes......This is also why I no longer do production. NO QUALITY or craftsmanship in work!! Builder just care about the $ not the product. My .02

Went to a high end job once, builder told me to seal the back door right away. After examination, I saw that it was already warped and had a gouge in it.

I told the builder right away, and proceded to seal it. I'm sure he already knew anyway. A week later, HO approached me about the warpage. Carpenters had blamed me. Good thing I spotted it right away or I would have been stuck.

I rarely get to them but the 48 hours after install, but we've never had any prob exchanging warped doors either even though they all have the warning on them.
