Was doing an estimate yesterday, and right before I gave the quote, the lady says....."by the way...I have cancer".....I was like....a..ahhhhhh...sorry to here that... what was I suppose to say?...did she think that was going to affect the quote? ( It might affect the payment options). She was without a doubt trying to use her sickness as a leverage for getting a better price.
What has the world come to......Next I'll here..

By the way.....My farther just passed away.... (and in this tough time... were thinking of having the house washed and repainted)

Tell her thanks for the heads up... You'll need to be paid daily for work performed just incase. :whistling2:

Ok something tells me bad joke. I'm sorry. That sucks for anybody to have to go through. Maybe suggest some non-toxic paint as the last thing she needs is to worsen her health. Discounts though? Business is business just like cheese is cheese & gas is gas.

I actually had a customer suffer a stroke while we were on the premises. It was a huge job...around 60k...I was worried if we were getting our next check. Now I'm doing a funeral parlor.... and when someone passes..we have to take a day and go somewhere else.

The funny things that happen to us in our travels....lol

We were in the middle of a remodel and the HO had to go to the hospital in the middle of the night. She smoked 3 packs a day. I asked my wife- How do I go about getting the last check if she dies? She spent 2 weeks in the hospital and then came home to a finished house...we got paid.

Its not quite as depressing as sick or dying people, but I once had a lady try to get me to give her a discount because her daughter's wedding was coming up. First of all, she had me working even at night so I would get it done in time and she drove a Benz. Some people just don't late paying for things.

Ive seen a HO vandalize their own things to get a buck nocked off the payout. dude took and splattered paint on the side a 200 year old "Family" clock, and then told us that he would deduct the amount off the payout. he even had a guy that refinished stuff like that to get a fair estimate, yea right! it was so obveus that it was done intentually, what do you do?? ya cant just kick his *** right there! and how do you prove you didnt do it? pics? that aint bullet proof. short of video tapin the entire proj. your screwed! we gotta just hope that people have straight intentions from the start. and Ive seen some folk that you'd think would be straight, but they end up crooked as the goverment! court takes money and time, taken skin is gonna get you cagetime, trustin no one gets to your head, huge contracts makes them nervious, watta you do? ya aint gonna turn crap like that in to your Ins. so,, you either walk away right on the spot, or try and work it out with the crooks. I myself trust no human 100%, their strange creatures. you can usually see their souls in their eyes, unless their hearts are so dark that they have no small still voice left! but well all keep paintin and hope we miss the bullet.

I completed a job on Sat. afternoon and the customer and her husband were in a bad auto accident that night, she died and he was hospitalized for several days.
Another job the customer wasn't feeling well one morning, he went to hospital that afternoon while we were at lunch, daughter called later that day saying he had passed away. We completed what we could, clean up and cleared out.
Both jobs paid within two to three weeks.

One of my favorites was at a $2 mil house. They were loaded & it was a small job with a fair price. "Can you to give me a better price because I owe over $200k in property taxes and really need to save some money".
