Seems alot of painters are non-knowledgable about this subject lately... how much do you guys charge %-wise for a color change on a change order? As in, customer picks a color, you put it on, customer doesn't like it and chooses another color....

I very rarely run into this issue. But when I have, I have been lucky to land them on T&M jobs...simple solution with those-they pay for more paint and I charge for more time. Can't complain there.

As far as a typical job with a set price, I don't recall having this issue yet.

My customers are usually pretty set on a color and have either put it on a big poster board or used it somewhere else in the house and know they like it.

What is your policy on this when it happens Benn?

Depends, on this particular house the customer didn't like the body color she picked out on the exterior, so it's an additional based on minus trim, minus doors.. ended up about 75%... just wondered as I mention change orders to some "new" painters here and are greeted by blank stares....

yeah...I hear ya

if I use a change order it's usually for added work, not an actual change during progress
