Doing allot of work at a funeral parlor....exterior (cir 1819). Owner wants me to paint the viewing room. what color would you suggest? It's an off white right now.... there is a chair rail....so I was going to go solid color on bottom
and maybe faux on top...but where do I start?.... I've done allot of color choices before..even spa's where the color of walls and lights can change the way hair color is viewed, but what color would be calm... and not overpowering for a room where bodies are displayed? Blue is definitely out.
Red is also off the table.... a designer said a soft purple..any suggestions?

I would pick something rich looking. Like a semi-dark green for the bottom with some high gloss cream trim. Unsure of the top color(s) though?

I would do the bottom section below the chair rail a darker color preferably something neutral. The top section a 1/4 tone of whats on the bottom with a cream colored chair rail. In my honest opinion, you really don't want to do anything too crazy because after all it is a showing room. Just make sure your colors are in the same range as the carpet and any type of sheers, or drapes they may have.

Purple...uh...no

Bottom nice brownish, top nice flax/cream or something
Maybe a nice glaze (faux) up top with third color, give the top some "texture"
Pick a few from the BM Historical Colors

Actually, I would say keep it simple. I hate beige but you want something really mellow with soft light. Also, stay away from really warm colors like yellows. They're already dead, lets keep bad reflections of colors on the wall away (ie no yellow). Warm taupes and beiges with either stained trim or simple satin white. Matte finish, no sheen, it will absorb the light better and create a soft ambiance.

What color is the floor? and window treaments?
What tone is the exterior of building?
and the neighborhood?
..can't have a total shock when entering!

The faux sounds safe.

How high is the lid? painting it too?

What is the general clientelle? well, visitors to the clientelle...
If there is some predominant group, they may have some ingrained color of preference that probably should be considered... if you want their business.

Guess you don't have to worry about playing the radio too loud while you work.

Paint it a color the dearly departed would appreciate - BLACK

I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and theyre all painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a new born baby it just happens evry day
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and it has been painted black
Maybe then Ill fade away and not have to face the facts
Its not easy facin up when your whole world is black
