Hey....Dr. Oz is a Harvard grad and has a medical degree from the University of PA....and cardiothoracic surgeon. I think that qualifies as a medical professional.

I have heard him say some out there things over the years. I remember a show on what constitutes a healthy looking poop:surprise: ...I think it was on a spot he did on Oprah???
He pooped on Oprah? That's the last time he'll ever be invited on any of her shows.

I really don't see how. Medical grade sterilization processes are pretty effective, and used all the time. But I guess there is always a possibility.

It just seems many times today we look to disposable products for convenience when on many levels reusable products make more sense.
Ethylene Oxide is an effective sterilizing agent but at this time it looks like emissions can cause cancers to the populace near these facilities.

He is , however, qualified! No disputing that.

that's certainly debatable, maybe he used to be when he was practicing medicine instead of peddling dishonest misinformation.

The Pigasus Award for Refusal to Face Reality goes to Dr. Mehmet Oz, the Harvard-trained cardiologist who hosts The Dr. Oz Show on broadcast television, one of the most popular syndicated television shows in America. The only person to have won a Pigasus Award two years in a row, he wins a third time this year for his continued promotion of quack medical practices, paranormal belief and pseudoscience, including pseudoscientific Reparative Therapy to "cure" gay people, the “energy-healing practice” of Reiki as a way to cure disease, various TV psychics and mediums such as Theresa Caputo and John Edward, faith healers such as "John of God," GMO conspiracy theories, and any number of new quack diets, herbal remedies, anti-aging cures, and untested “wonder drugs,” among many other pseudoscientific and paranormal claims

Haters gonna hate!

I'm kinda just pulling your chain...I agree, he is a nut job. I think most that give up medicine and pursue the lime light are.* But he is credentialed, for what that's worth.

*Except maybe Ken Jeong....

I just saw a local seamstress is making masks out of HEPA vacuum bags and furnace filters....a growing grass roots movement across the Country. And hospitals are happily accepting them. And the cloth portion(a pocket of sorts) can be washed and reused...just insert a new filter....that's good thinking.

America pulling together!!!

I dunno...pulling together sounds like socialism...

Really though, business is supposed to step up in times like this and I'm surprised 3M or whoever isn't running 3 shifts making masks. Seems like a good time to make a few bucks. It's almost as if someone- perhaps with an invisible hand was holding them back...

Almost 20% of Illinois workers are on 1099's and don't qualify for unemployment.

I think the government will make allowances for them when putting the relief package together. But the guy who works cash under the table....he's going to be in big trouble....just like when worker comp, disability, or SS is needed. That's when the cash guy isn't smirking about getting one over on the government.

Pay now or pay later....either way, you gonna pay.

Because they are virtually all made in China. Manufactures in the US have to set up the equipment to make the masks, which takes time....and that equipment first had to be made...which takes time.

Normally I have a box of those N95 masks in the shop, but always just use my respirator. Realized I only have 1 used one left. Hanging on to it with my life. Carrying it around in my lunch box.!

I think the biggest take away from all of this is:

1. Ramp up federal and state emergency reserves of disinfectants, toilet paper and dust masks so the country won't collapse into a state of hysteria the next time a pandemic virus hits

2. Start manufacturing things in the USA so we're not dependent on countries that hate us

It doesn't seem so un attainable.

Did you listen to the NPR interview? The notion that nobody could have known and we were caught off guard is a fallacy. Not only is it attainable but we were more prepared for something like this in the 1960's than today. People in the government have been preparing since the 1918 flu pandemic. It is simply because some bean counter with their thumb on the ledger thought it would be less expensive to not hold warehouses full of supplies that we are in this situation. That and the government for some 'unknown' reason (its not politically popular with their base) has not enacted their federal powers to take control of manufacturing.

It's baffling how your posts aren't flagged for being political.
