For email marketers, there only appeared to be one major trend that mattered in 2010. It's a game changer that presents both opportunities and challenges for businesses to connect with customers. You guessed it: It's the impact of social media. You can't just "talk at" customers anymore. They now expect to be part of the conversation and part of your business story. Social media has irrevocably changed the email marketing landscape.

Social media has had one major impact on marketing like no other: It is what your past clients or customers say about your business that matters most (in the form of testimonials and referrals) to potential clients or customers. Not what you say about it in your marketing or advertising.

So while your advertising works in getting them to the door, there better be good things being said about you to get them to come in. And that is THE major influence that social media has had on small businesses (even big ones) over the last 3 years.
