I have been doing more work with spray stain (acetone solvent) lately and using lacquer and wonder why there is not a move to green products in these areas. The VOC volume given off with a lot of spray stain work and lacquer has got to be a ton more than the worst latex wall paint.

Has anyone tried mixing up waterborne dye stains into a sprayable mix? I know there are some good waterborne clears, but for some reason even though waterbornes dominate painted trim work over lacquer, they have not taken off for clear finishes. I am guessing that the biggest problem to over come would be fighting the grain raising of waterborne stains.

Any one experiment with this?
