Just want to say hi to everyone. I own a one man Carpentry / Painting business. I would say it's 60/40 , but I'm starting to do more painting and thats making me happy. With the carpentry there are so many areas were you can loose money. I find that the tighter the economy is the less people want to trust you on T&M jobs. If it's a repeat customer then thats not a problem. I do a lot of work for a property mgnt co. that I have a good relashonship with. They have 4 condo properties to run. Thats why the painting numbers are up. I have allways loved painting and from what i'm told i'm good at it. After having my truck for 5 years I finaly had it lettered last summer, BUT it only says Carpentry because thats how my business is set up. Now i'm trying to do more painting

A carpenter in the USA should be able to perform multiple tasks like rough framing, wood siding (anything else your an installer!) fit/install doors, finish trim. It's like my company motto " All things Wood"

To me joinery would be a person who performs a lot of the same things. I do know someone here who practices joinery. They build post an beam structures and barns the old fashion way. To me they are truely artists. No calk or glues. Just tight fitting joints and pegs.
