hi,

I am a newbie to this board, just found out on Google! This topic may have been asked before, but maybe like you I think my problem is a little unique.

I have worked in the field for the last 6 years and have scrimped and saved and have opened my own shop.

I have signed up for a quickbooks course and that is about it.

I was referred to a broker type guy in Sarasota who helps me find the right employee leasing company for me. His web site has a link where I can get incorporated and he has referred me to an agent he knows that handles GL.

I see some guys on here are from Florida and wanted a little feedback so I do not make a mistake.

Question: How have you found your workers comp? Does anyone know anything about: www.1stplacEmployer.com

This guy can get me my workers' comp, payroll and employe benefits handled...

Also, has anyone had any luck with opportunity Knocks or postcard mania for advertising?

I plan to have a lady work part-time in the office, the idea of a comp and payroll company sounds good, then I will sell and get my few guys busy and hopefully grow a damn good business.....

Any suggestions would be awesome!

Thanks,

Mark

Why would you need a broker type guy to help you get insurance? Most of us shop that one around ourselves, I think.

Hiring a payroll service is a great idea.

There are many, many other things you will learn here...timhag...threads please...

If you don't have a marketing plan, develop one yesterday. Without leads you'll be back on here asking how to get work.

A new business needs to market like crazy. You need to be everywhere. This doesn't need to cost a lot, and may require a lot of sweat equity, but if you don't get your name out, nobody will call. If nobody calls, you won't have work. And if you don't have work, those insurance premiums are going to start looking pretty big in a hurry.

I always knew that somehow that old tune was metaphorical.

Help is Appreciated

Brothers of the brush,

Thanks to tim for the fetch, i have a lot of stuff to chew on...

Thanks to Brian on the marketing tip, I have been looking at postcard mailings, internet, local publications, etc...

I think I may stay away from the yellow pages.....

I was talking to this broker guy because insurance and payroll and HR is what he does, i paint and I am a great painter but the administration and paperwork is NOT for me. My wife worked at the school board for 17 years and is skilled, but we both have a heck of a lot to learn.

I was working towards my t-shirt, but I will take Tim's advice read, study the posts and try to post something exciting, new, creative and one of a kind;)

oh yea, I always wondered about Dear Liza and poor henry LOL
