Don't be so hard on this guy....... Did you look at his work? Looks pretty good to me. Did you look at his contact page? It seems that they are of Spanish decent. Perhaps their spelling of english is not that great, but their work look pretty good.

hmmmm, I have a better idea. Why don't you do it?
Yah know, I think that is a splendid idea. So often I hear people say, "Why don't one of you people do ......" that just once I would appreciate a demonstration on how it is done.

and qdslse, that's not meant as a slight on you. I'll admit to being churlish by laughing at the total ineptitude of this site and how it must backfire as a representation of quality work, while you.....well .... you see beyond the surface grunge into the purity of the soul within.

You see his glass half full. I see the milk spilled on the floor when he spazzed out while pouring.

Your ideals are definitely more loftier than ours. And thus I ask that you pave the way with good intentions by emailing him a good Samaritan letter pointing out his errors. Heck, I'd hate to receive the credit for your idea. Lead the way, bro, so that we shall follow.

Hey I just had a great idea . . . why don't one of you give him a call or email and help him with his spelling of the English language.
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/hss/782176615.html

qdslse:

Before you begin consulting with our area competitors and trying to better the world, it might be nice to start in Chicago first! If I'm not mistaken Chicago has a rather large spanish community that you could work with and if that is not enough you should start contacting those "contractors" like http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/hss/782176615.html that needs some advice. Maybe you could do some estimating for him so that he will understand what the market is.

Tonyg - The objective here was to simply take a moment to kindly remind a fellow painter/contractor to reason on how it's better to see things from a positive aspect rather than get a cheap laugh by making fun of people that may have made a mistake or are less fortunate from an educational standpoint. Be positive, it's much healthier. That was all. And when possible just do a kind thing for our fellow contractor or 'neighbor' rather than make fun of them.

I believe in another thread you responded as being a Christian by how you walk or choose to live your life, so no doubt you are familiar with the parable of the neighborly Samaritan. That was what I was trying to encourage, just do an act of kindness.

Regarding the Spectrum Painting company that you referred to, perhaps he is a guy just trying to feed his family with little or no overhead.

Neither you or I can personally help the entire world of contractors but a little act of kindness now and then especially from a Christian goes a long way in showing just how mature one is in walking in one's faith. Also wouldn't you agree that in order to get through that narrow gate one would need to display the fruitages of the spirit such as kindness, mildness, goodness and self-control, to name a few.

Have a great day!

You are absolutely right (well, mostly right) and you have respectfully put me in my place, although I was already kinda there after I typed the post ;).

My point wasn't to laugh. The guys work looked pretty nice but it takes more to be successful in business than the quality of your work. Frankly, I would rather have this guy working for me then competing against me. From the looks of his site though I am sure typos are not just isolated here and there is a good chance his problems with presentation may be more prevelent.

I am not a big fan of contractors that do it all or handyman services that also paint. I see Homeguard as an exception because painting is a substantial part of his biz. This contractor, as with many others, seems to throw in painting as a service because it seems that anyone can do it.

I have, and will continue to work with and help several of my competitors. I believe there is definitely room for us to compete but I also think there should be some degree of limitation to access. As a Capitalist I believe the marketplace will be one that provides this limitation as it weeds out the type and number of competitors. I know my previous post didn't come out too well but when everybody and their brother with a stationwagon or a pick up truck decides they are painters then the market will even itself out. When I lose bids to "painters" that just started last month that are underbidding by 50%, or I see and get calls from painters that have been in business for 10-15 yrs because they are out of work, I see less of an opportunity to help a company that has poor presentation skills as I do that the market has an opportunity help the many professionals out of work. As far as your Craiglist painter, as well as our painter offering $99 "paintint", not only will they not be able to feed their families but they may cause many more families to be in the same situation.

I don't intend to come across mean, or un-Christianlilke, albeit it may be difficult to tell from one post, but I believe one can be a capitalist and a Christian.

I read both your posts daily as an Englishman in the UK with the main thing in common being we paint like pro's.

I am at a fork in the road of late as to whose posts make me laugh the most with the constant wit you both come out with.
I only wish the English forums were as entertaining :notworthy:
