I work for a BM/California retailer in Seacoast NH. We are a smaller, family owned business and a BM Signature store. We have a great local clientelle of loyal home owners, contractors and small business owners. However, thanks to our fleeting economy, we are down almost 60% from last year. I'm curious as to how others are doing around the country, both retailers and painters. Between BM price increases, plus their deal with ACE (which is right down the street and selling below M.A.P.) business is slow. What do people think? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

We are a BM retailer and building materials in Western Mass......and yes we too have the Ace hardware stores, Lowes next door, and two 3 Home Depots in a 10 mile radius. As far as our paint and sundry business we are actually up from last year about 15% in BM only. It comes to a point where you have to get aggressive with pricing, "and not listen to the rep whine" more so now than before with SW throwing free stuff around and now all BM dealers are facing a price increase as well as drop ship fees..........it could slow things down for some even more.

Lucky to work where we do, business has been good this year. Give some credit to this board and the ideas people share. We are up year to date from last year, but not where we want to be.
