Hello,

I am new to this forum (first post) and am by no means a painter. I run a Boston area theatre company and we are producing a play by John Logan, Red.

The play chronicles the two years it took abstract expressionist Mark Rothko to paint the famous Seagram Murals with his assistant Ken.

In the play Rothko and his assistant actually make the murals on stage every night (building frames, stretching canvas, making paint, priming, etc. ). Here is were I need your help! How does one make paint?

Rothko used Egg Tempera, we need to make enough red egg tempera paint to cover a 6x6 canvas every night. I know various pigments, oils and of course eggs are involved but I have yet to find instructions on making it. All I have been only able to find instructions on making tiny portions. Please help me out!

Greatly appreciated!
Jack

Side note - Anyone know anything on the pulley system Rothko used to paint with?
