Has anyone used Mildex or any other mildecide additive? I have a bid going in that may help sell it a little since they have an issue with Dryvit on a North side wall and the rapidly growing mildew is their main concern. If I'm not mistaken the additives like this were not very effective but, perception is everything, and if the HO thinks I am adding value I may get some and try it out in this case.

HO like it when you tell them you can put a packet of Mildex in. I think the general consensus is that all premium products already have as much in them as necessary. Don't add more than 1 packet per gal or it might negatively affect the topcoat. I don't think just one will do much either way except win you the job : )

I have a client who got a competing bid from somebody who used a "mildew inhibitor additive" as a selling point on their bid. Care to guess who got the job?

I always find that honesty goes a long way with people. I explained to the client that I use high-grade exterior paints that are already mildew resistant, and some manufacturers recommend against using additives in paint that already has mildewcide. I think I won the bid because I didn't come off as a BS'er or an upseller.

I could see using an additive in lower quality paint, or maybe an interior application, but that's something I have yet to try.

I don't know about Mildex, but alot of these additives are very dangerous for the applicator. I used one to keep wood boring bees away from a log cabin yrs. ago and reading the label it could cause blindness and other bad stuff. Haven't touched since then.

I too concur to use better paint and skip the additives.
