I'm trying to paint sandeply to get a nice acceptable black finish in as few steps as possible without warping the wood for an interior wall hanging. This 2'x4' sign doesn't have to look like it belongs in a mansion...just acceptable.

Can anyone make any suggestions as to how I can accomplish this with applying only two or three coats of anything? I need to use WB Latex as the paint.

I have a sprayer on its way so that wouldn't be a problem.

Thanks!

Sandeply is a realitively inexpensive plywood sold at home depot. It stays nice and straight for a while. You have to paint both sides quickly to make it remain straight.

It also has a "fuzzy" surface especially when sand it or apply paint, esp. waterbased. But I think if you paint both sides quickly it is not inclined to warp.
