Hello everyone I'm looking at an exterior project right off lake Michigan so it get all kinds of nasty weather. It was painted 4 years ago. Heres the situation, 2 sides- the sides facing the lake that also get all the sun are very weathered but not yet peeling and have what looks like mold coming through all the way up the house on the siding. Its black strips coming throough the paint and the caulk is peeling from in between the board siding. The 2 sides in the shade that are pretty much protected from the weather look fine and dont even need to be painted. My question is do I wash the weathered sides in bleach to kill what may be mold and use mooreguard with a mildecide additive for best protection against the weather and what sort of expectation could I have for how many years this paint will last? 5-6 years? thanks for any advice.

make sure you kill all the mold and let dry before prime/painting. top coat should be latex as oils are more susceptible to mold/mildew. be careful to keep your chemicals out of the lake. I think Mooreguard already has their mildicide in it but having them mix in an extra packet cant hurt.
