It depends on the document. For simple things like letters I'll use Word. If I'm doing something that requires more than 1 graphic or any kind of layout, I'll use Publisher.

Publisher is Word on steroids. It is far better for something like a newsletter, or if you want to plug in a number of graphics. It's also easier to edit photos and graphics in Publisher than Word.

Another thing I like about Publisher is the ability to create JPEG and GIF files directly from Publisher. If this can be done with Word, I haven't figured out how.

What version of word do you have? I just installed it off of office 2007. The insert option lets you insert jpgs etc. Is that what you're talking about?
Never used publisher.

My problem is that I don't have patience, and especially don't want to learn all the software that's out there. I've seen requests lately for powerpoint.
I don't have it installed and don't want to learn it. And that's just for basic office work.
There's still photoshop and other editing software. I'm still looking for a good program that is easy to color houses with.

I'm not sure which version of Word I have, but I can insert JPEGs with it.

What I'm talking about is creating JPEGs. With Publisher I can create a document, with or without graphics, and turn it into a JPEG. So I can take a photo, insert it into Publisher, add text, and then turn it into a JPEG. I can then use that JPEG on the web, or insert it into another document.

One example of how I've used it: I've had situations where I need to email a customer a photo. If I just send the photo and a separate description, it could be confusing. With Publisher, I can add text, arrows, etc. and then convert it to a JPEG before emailing.

For example:

You might want to look a Google.doc, simple word, powerpoint, email, storage. If you have Office 2007, it should have powerpoint and excel also.
How's business in Vegas?

I have the full office install, only installed word though.:)

Business is OK. A little shaky through the holidays, and this is my birthday weekend, yawn. I'll get back on it tomorrow.

I work alone, so it's not as critical as guys with employees.

Actually, I had just presumed it was slow here, but I guess there's plenty of work.
The couple of times I used craigslist, it worked out well. Networking has always worked out well in Vegas and someone put me on Angies List where I've managed to maintain a straight A rating.
