I was wondering how everyone is dealing with the massive increases in paint over the last seven months. Depending on the manufacturers, it looks like 18% - 20%! I have included a new one coming up shortly. How is everyone dealing with it, are you getting more on price or not?

Have not seen any increases as of the past year.
I am sure they will increase with fuel and other cost over time.
I will just change my cost per gallon rate to reflect the new cost when my paint store man says, "Oh by the way!!"

It really doesn't concern me too much as I pass that price along to the customer, it isn't money coming out of my pocket.

+ 15% for going to get it:yes:

Its been a long time since Ben Moore did two price increases in one year. Especially barely 6 months apart. As a dealer, it hurts. Its gets pretty hard to sell anyone a $50 gallon of paint. Sales are down. Plus there is an Ace Hardware down the street selling below MAP.

I'm not that worried about it. How ever I do believe that these painter contracting without a lic. ins. bond should be getting their price increased 50% to 60%. That would stop these 17 an hr jobs and bring them up to the price level where we have to be to operate. :whistling2:

Part of the cost of paint has a lot to do with DuPont raising prices across the board by 20% or 25%. Every... single.. product they make had the price raised. I got to see an interesting presentation from them at our facility about a month ago. They seem to have a better TiO2 out there for durability with the same grade that we expect in a high quality pigment, but I never got to test it out.

I've decided to raise my material markup to 75% and increase prices for our services by 80% across the board to offset all current and future increases. This way, I hope to not have to do it again for a while. So far the feedback from customers has been supportive.

Dow has raised prices across the board by 20%... this is everything from paint additives, epoxy resin, or even scrubbing bubbles.

We received 20-25 price increases THIS WEEK! You guys can expect to see prices rise significantly for at least the next couple of months even if we stop getting increases tomorrow... which isn't likely!

I keep thinking I'm going to turn on the TV and see a hostage crisis in Iran and peanut farmer in the White House... Deja VU...

Wolverine:

I am afraid the Deju Vu part may be try which ever way the elections go.
Greenspan left and his economic policies are now unraveling...something that happens where the financial manipulations of the past years have taken place ...

Those were some hard time for the independent business people.
