The way I get my prices is I measure the room, multiply by 4, divide by 8 then add 5, then I count the bristles on my paint brush (can take a while to do this) take the price I paid for the brush and multiply the number of bristles, I then divide by 20. Take the materials estimate and multiply it by 1, divide by 0.
I hope this helps clear any confusion new guys have with pricing a job.:whistling2:

Just as long as you don't confuse metric with imperial. You should be ok.

it was a foolproof formula except the very end. dividing by zero will make you little to no profit.

I just tell them to get 3 other estimates first and I'll beat the lowest one by $50

You're marketing the wrong clientèle.

I tell them to add 50% to the highest. PLUS I charge $150 for the estimate. Works every time

You guys need to stop with the "we frown upon pricing questions" its really not as serious as you potray... if ten people from every corner of the globe give a price...isn't that a pretty good idea..average them out...not literally but it would give a good idea for some one new....

Feel free.......rentals get charged as rental....working man pays rates he can pay...the CEO...pays what a CEO get paid....you can't tell me you charge Joe blow the same as the top big wig at a fortune 500.....

Stands to reason that you'd probably make more off the 500's job as realistically it would be a larger one, but if they both wanted a door painting, then they'd both get charged the same.

What about ethics and fairness are you not getting

That's outrageous.....were not selling gas... something that is regulated by the government ....were selling a personal service

Joe blow may pay $35 for the door.... average guy 60$ if I see a beamer in the drive way $100 all day...common sense

If I'm bidding against the top residential company...I'm biding lower...but closer to there pricing...otherwise you go to low u look stupid and lose anyways...

I charge everybody the same price for the same amount of work.It's only fair and it's the right thing to do.I have never charged more because of the car they drive.
