I am in the process of painting a condo. When removing something from the unit, I gouged (accidentally)the neighbors door and now need to fix it. The door is one of those 1980's-style doors that are hollow and look like they are made of a Formica counter-top that attempts to look like real wood. Has anyone ever painted something like this? If so, what are the steps to get it done? I was thinking of sanding it with pretty coarse sandpaper to rough-up the surface, applying oil primer, then do a latex gloss over top. Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, I think most of us have at one point. I see no need to oil prime. If it were my job It'd be latex primer, sand, wipe, coat with 2 coats latex topcoat (sheen is personal choice).

Think latex...it's the mentality of the future ;)

good luck
